“As I took in the work, I realized I had walked into a show that embodies an animated .gif. Each piece is in motion, or references motion, or waits to be put in motion, or is paused.”  - Jessica Felon

Feminism Exhibition is a multimedia exhibition that will be on display at Var Gallery and Studios. The show will open Friday, January 6th, and remain on display until Saturday, February 4th. Artwork on display includes large format photography, paintings, mixed media, as well as a spoken word performance during the opening reception.

The exhibition features 15 local artist: Mila Hakim, Valaria Tatera, Nancy Xiong, Bianca Brandolino, Sarah Sickles, Stef Schwartz, Aubrey Kroiss, Jake Hill, Sara Schuler, Lexis Zenobia, Maeve Jackson, Sandy Manikowski, Emily Clement, and work by the show’s curators, Cristina Ossers and Erin Pfaff.

Cristina and Erin are assistants, and artists-in-residence at Var Gallery and Studios. Both have been working at Var since Feburary 2015. Var Gallery is an artist collective and an exhibition space for emerging artist and performers in Milwaukee.

This is Cristina and Erin’s first curatorial collaboration together. Cristina graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2015 with a BFA in Inter-Arts and Technology. Erin graduated from MIAD in 2015 with BFA in photography. This exhibition is a space for individuals to feel safe and welcome. Each create work across disciplines exploring topics in identity and self reflection. Their role as curators is an opportunity to engage with new artist who are investigating similar subjects. The two hope that the show will inspire conversations that both challenge and broaden their definition of feminism that they can share with the community.
