ABOUT
The Gallery Stage is a drawing series created for Var Gallery and Studios' annual 30x30x30 Exhibition. The show prompts artists to create 1 artwork a day for 30 days. Each work also must be 6'' by 6''.
During the months of November and December, I sketched gesture drawings of the musicians, comedians, and poets that performed at Var Gallery and Studios. These gesture drawings served as a visual reference for the final drawings.
I see this body of work as an extension of my photo and video documentation practice. I use the camera to preserve finite moments. Drawing, and revisiting gesture drawings, for 30 days was an opportunity to observe my environment through the perspective of my hand instead of a lens.
Each work was drawn in black sharpie on a stretched canvas. The fluid lines were a way replicate the unique movement and body language of each performer.
